School Background
Pilar P. Rodriguez Elementary School is strategically located at Kilometer 9, Barangay Tigatto 4 kilometers away from Buhangin District Office. It is a 10 000 square meter land donated by the very prominent landowner and former Mayor of Davao Province, Don Julian Rodriguez.
The emergence of the school is anchored on the commitment of responding to the need of the community for providing quality education to the people. This rural school is situated in a community where most of the people are Kalagans. Indeed, the site itself is very favorable and advantageous to the locality since most of the residents depend largely on sand and gravel business as their means of livelihood both the Christians and Kalagans. The accessibility and convenience of the school makes education available to all.
Originally, the school bears its name “Tigatto Elementary School” when it was first opened in the year 1939, unfortunately, the building was burnt down by the Japanese soldiers. The catastrophic incident did not hinder the Rodriguez family to get back and reconstructed the school in the year 1946. Through the test if time, the school resolutely soared on and in fact in 1954, the land was officially donated by Don Julian Rodriguez and Doña Pilar Palma Gil Rodriguez. And through the initiative and concerted efforts of the Barangay of Tigatto and PTA Officials, they made a joint resolution renaming Tigatto Elementary School to Pilar P. Rodriguez Elementary School.
From its modest beginnings, the school persistently stands proud and remains steadfast in its quest for academic excellence. The progress, renovations, constructions and the growing population manifest its remarkable performances and accomplishments. The school has now 11 buildings, a rehabilitated Gabaldon Building, two 3-storey 9-classroom building, a covered court, A school clinic, ICT Room, Feeding room and a Reading Center. The development of the school inspired the school administrator with the encouragement and help of Former Congressman Vincent J. Garcia to expand its curricular mileage, therefore a Junior High School was opened in June, 2017 to cater the Grade 7 pupils.
At present, it has 33 regular teachers, 24 Elementary and 9 Junior High School Teachers, and 1 ALIVE Teacher with a population of 906 pupils, headed by the Principal, Maria Ligaya R. Romero.
Progressively, with the persistent and unceasing support of the Rodriguez Heirs, parents, stakeholders, Barangay Officials and PTA Officers, Pilar P. Rodriguez Elementary School strives itself to successfully integrate the Vision, Mission and Core Values of the Department of Education and continuously giving compassionate and dedicated service to the people in its endeavor to become a school worthy to be called an institution that finds its place among the nation’s best.
